Enough With The Small Groups Already!!
If you’ve found yourself thinking or saying like that, and if you are attending KCC, I’ve got some news for you.
We have not yet begun to encourage, push, teach, form, exhort and all around massively support small groups here at KCC!
Did I hear some groans out there?
Sorry about that guys and girls, but I’m a firm believer in the necessity of small groups. I’ve been a small group backer since my High School youth group (called the Key Teens – we were the key to winning the world or something like that).
I know it’s hard to believe but yes, they even had small groups back in the Dark Ages when I was a teenager!!
I was saved as a teenager, and all my earliest growth took place in that youth group. It’s not an exaggeration to state that that youth group changed my life, shaped my life and put me on the path that has led me to where I am today.
That’s the power of a solid youth ministry.
Our youth group had all the usual meetings, pool parties, etc. But for quite some time we also had home Bible studies, that were in essence small groups. I learned how to use the Bible in a small group, I learned how to pray publicly in a small group. I confessed my sin and doubt and confusion, and found a whole lot of answers there as well.
In my opinion the small group experience is vital to true discipleship and fellowship in the modern Christian’s life.
Of course small groups are anything but modern. In Acts chapter two we’re told they met from house to house. Thus you have small groups in the first church.
I pointed that out to a traditional Christian once. He was absolutely opposed to small groups, and was convinced that strange things happened there. Like people touching their toes or something! ( I was never quite clear on what he thought went on.) Yes, he was opposed to them and knew for sure what happened in them – even though he had never been in one!
Now there’s an open mind for you – not!
What did he say to the small groups of Acts 2? He said there were lots of rich Christians who had big courtyards so they didn’t have small groups – but large ones!
Ooooooooookay!
I know I got off my point – so let me just say it plain – If you aren’t in a small group you need to get into one right now!
Not only are they Biblical, but logical as well. It’s the perfect place to live out the Christian life, share your faith, etc.
SNL is all about the small groups – so please get in on this week! You won’t regret it.

When I read Acts, and how the believers gathered together in their homes, I think small groups! And for those of us who are shy, it is a way to establish relationship without being terrified!
Go KCC!
